Low iron is not uncommon during pregnancy and contributes to making you feel even more tired than creating several humans does already. You should be routinely tested for your iron levels at around 20 weeks, and 28 weeks. In the lead up, eat a healthy diet including iron rich foods (in sensible quantities as too much can be bad for you, as with most things! Ask your doctor if you have any concerns) and remember iron absorption is increased with vitamin C and decreased by dairy foods. So, the iron in a really good beefburger is made more difficult to absorb for your body to use if you drink a milkshake with it! And you’ll get more out of that nice healthy burger if you have a big portion of leafy dark greens alongside or eat an orange afterwards.
