What can I expect in the first few days after the babies are born?

In essence; a whole lot of feeding and changing, and not a lot of sleep! In all seriousness, though, do take every single opportunity to rest in those first crucial days post-birth. Your body has gone through a traumatic experience – whether a vaginal birth or a Caesarean – and you need to recover. If you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be able to take care of your babies either and you’re in the best possible place to make sure your babies are well taken care of so you can rest. That’s not to say, though, you should sit back and let the hospital staff take over; you’ll want to get involved to learn how to do it! You’ll likely be focusing on a few key things;

  • Establishing feeding, whether you’re breastfeeding or bottle-feeding
  • Learning how to quickly and effectively take care of basics such as nappy changing, bathing and burping. We have it on good authority from our multiples mummies with older children that it’s as vital this time round as it was with their previous babies, as most of them said by the time their multiples arrived they’d totally forgotten what to do! Whether you’re a first time parent or you’ve been there and done that, don’t be afraid to ask the hospital staff for help and advice. They’re fully trained and there to help you, and as you’re in the UAE, you’re likely to be paying (or your insurance will be paying) for the service, so use it!
