Looking After Yourself – Multi use beauty products!Twinsplus Arabia
When you’ve been lucky enough to have two full hours of sleep, you’re covered in milky stains and feeling drained of energy – beauty products are certainly not high on many multiple mums list of priorities. But for many mums, looking good can be rejuvenating in these less than glamorous years. As multiple mums we lead hectic lives and let’s face it, who has time to use a multitude of makeup products after a sleepless night or before the school run?
I’m Sophie – mum to three boys two of whom are multiples so I have lived the pain… As a professional make-up artist I’m going to tell you that luckily there are many multi purpose products in the beauty industry today that mean you can look and feel your best with minimal effort! And without numerous products to add to your already bulging diaper bag! Here is my list of top products for multiple mums (and some can be used by Dad and babies too!).
One of the beauty industry’s go-to multi use products is Virgin coconut oil, and the good news is that it’s available here in all good grocery stores! Coconut oil is rich in fatty acids so it makes an excellent moisturizer for all areas of the body including the face for both mum and baby. Add a little sugar to the oil and it makes a delicious (literally) body/facial scrub! Coconut oil also makes a great makeup remover and even removes waterproof mascara safely and effectively, moisturizing the area too. It also makes a great moisturizing shaving balm! Coconut oil can also be used as a makeup primer to add a dewy glow to skin, it’s a dry oil so it’s absorbed quickly and doesn’t make the skin shiny. Coconut oil is also fantastic for dry, damaged and frizzy hair. It can be used as a deep conditioning treatment when left on the hair and wrapped with a warm towel and even as a shine serum to tame frizzy hair.
Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream
Apparently a tube of Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream is sold every 30 seconds somewhere in the world and it’s easy to see why. It’s a fantastic and portable multi use product that’s brilliant to have in your diaper bag. It can be used to treat chapped skin anywhere on the body from lips to cracked heels. It can be used on the eyebrows to keep them in place and to moisturize the eyelashes. It conditions cuticles and can even be used on burns or cuts. This wonder product can also be used as a highlighter for a dewy sheen on your cheekbones and even to defrizz hair flyaways! It’s known for its rehydrating properties during flights too!
NARS The Multiple
This is an all-in-one, cream-to-powder, multipurpose makeup stick that can be used on the eyes, cheeks and lips! You can use this travel-friendly stick dry for a more intense colour, blending in with the heat of your fingertips, or use wet fingers to blend on in a more sheer wash of colour. Throw the stick in your diaper bag and you’re good to go, feeling fresh and polished.
Foundations provide a good coverage but they can feel heavy and sticky, especially in the heat and humidity of Dubai. Plus, why use a product that just covers when you can use a lighter product that doubles as makeup and skincare combined!
Originating in Asia and hitting Europe in 2011, BB creams (‘beauty balm’ or ‘blemish balm’) are used to even out the skin tone, dark circles and to correct blemishes. BB cream is lighter than standard foundation but thicker than a tinted moisturizer and contains both an SPF which is ideal in Dubai as well as antioxidants that help protect against free radicals and pollution damage (also a bonus in any city).
There are some fantastic BB creams on the market to suit every pocket. An inexpensive favourite that really holds its own against more expensive options (and also happens to be available in your local supermarket here) is Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-In-One BB Cream with SPF15. Other fantastic BB creams include Diorskin Nude BB Creme SPF 10 and Estée Lauder Daywear B.B Anti-Oxidant Beauty Benefit Creme with SPF35.
Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray
This thermal water is naturally pure and rich in mineral salts, iodine and CO2, and is recognized for its therapeutic properties for the skin. It can be sprayed over the hair to calm frizz, onto irritated or itchy skin to soothe it, or over the face, neck and body throughout the day in hot climates like the UAE. You can also use the thermal water to set your makeup as it evaporates and helps makeup to stay in place longer.
Another fantastic multi use product is Benefit’s range of tints such as Benetint and Posy Tint which are concentrated lip and cheek stains that also come in a balm version for a more subtle effect (Benebalm).
You can also get these products in a mini size which is great for throwing in your bag for use throughout the day leaving lips and cheeks with a pretty, rose tinted flush, making the face look healthier and more rejuvenated.
So I hope this inspires you to try a few new products in the run up to the Christmas period – happy multiples parenting!
